Confirmation for Adults

What is Confirmation?

“Then Peter and John laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit”
 – Acts 8:14-17

Confirmation is the anointing with sacred chrism by the Bishop or Priest which signifies the gift of the Holy Spirit. This sacrament gives us special divine strength to share and “defend our faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ” and never to be ashamed of his Cross. (Catechism of the Catholic Church #1303)

Adult Confirmation Information

Thank you for your interest in Adult Confirmation at Saint Clement. This process will prepare your mind and soul for the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation, which is a great gift of grace that our Father gives to us through the Holy Spirit!

The Process

The Adult Confirmation process focuses on seven sessions covering the basics of Catholicism. In these sessions we discuss how God reveals Himself to us, the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, morality, spirituality and more.

Adult Confirmation classes are done twice a year: once in the spring and another in the fall. As each person’s situation will vary, it would be best to set up a short meeting with Cathy Rosales to discuss your specific situation and create a plan that will best meet your situation.

Forms

Each participant in Adult Confirmation needs to complete the following forms:

  • Parish Membership – If you are not already a registered member of Saint Clement, please complete a New Parishioner Registration Form. This form can be obtained from the Parish Office during the week and at the Welcome Desk after all Sunday Masses in the Narthex. If you are registered at another Catholic church, please contact that parish for a letter of permission from your pastor to receive your sacrament of Confirmation at Saint Clement.

  • Copy of Candidate’s Baptismal Certificate

This can also be returned to the Parish Office or emailed to Cathy.

If a certificate is not available, the individual can contact his/her church of baptism to request an updated copy or letter of baptism.

Sponsors

A sponsor is the candidate’s faith mentor; someone they can talk to about faith. This person would also be the person who stands beside the candidate during their Confirmation.

All sponsors need to be active, practicing, and fully initiated Catholics.

Sponsors will be provided a Sponsor Eligibility Form. When completed, the form can be brought to sponsor’s parish of registration. That parish will complete the bottom portion of the form.

The St. Clement Church Adult Confirmation program is designed for adults who are active in their Catholic faith, are baptized, and have received the sacrament of First Eucharist, but for various reasons were not able to celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Classes are held in English on Mondays from 7pm-8:30pm and in Spanish on Fridays from 7pm to 8:30pm.
