Ministry  of  Sacristan

Sacristan Responsibilities: A large part of the preparation for the liturgical celebration belongs to the sacristan. In a sense you are responsible for everything that is used in the parish liturgy. As a sacristan you are in charge of the environment and materials used in the parish liturgy. You should be informed of the parish liturgy schedule, any changes that are made and informed early about special liturgies (i.e. Confirmation, Lent, Advent, etc.) The parish liturgy is the public event forming the very heart of the whole parish life. You as sacristan are responsible for all the behind-the-scenes preparation. In consultation with the pastor and liturgy committee, the sacristan contributes to the liturgical life of the parish.

A General Outline of the Routine Duties of a Sacristan:
  1. Arrive early to set up the altar for mass. Books are prepared and vessels set put.
  2. Make sure microphones are working and set up sound and lights.
  3. Make sure all ushers, lectors, gift bearers, altar servers and Eucharistic ministers have arrived.
  4. You need to s air temperature before mass.
  5. You may be a sacristan for daily Mass of Sunday Masses or both.
