So you want to be an Altar Server?

For Catholics, nothing is more important than the Mass. It is the heart and soul of our worship of God. It is the celebration that gives us the strength we need to live a Christian life. Because of its importance, the Church places a serious obligation on all its members to take part in the Mass each Sunday and Holy days. Thus, each Sunday the Christian community comes together to give joint worship to the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Of all things Christians do, nothing is more important than celebrating Mass together. In your call to ministry, you will assist at other services, but none is as important as your service at Mass as one of the leaders of the community. The Mass is a reenactment of the last supper when Jesus instituted the Eucharist and told his followers, "do this in memory of me."

Who May Serve ...

Anyone who has received the sacrament of First communion and has not finished 12th grade. You must be in the state of grace, which is maintained by following church teaching and actively taking part in the sacrament of penance and reconciliation. Which is required by the Church once a year before Easter. You must be willing and able to make a commitment to serve at all scheduled dates. This requires a commitment not only from the server, but also from the server's parent or guardian. The server will need to complete a training session which is usually 4 one hour sessions set up with the Director of the Altar Server Ministry.
